Our purpose
Coloring Lab exists to help readers understand color and apply it in projects. Content is written to teach, not to sell. A page earns its place by being useful to a person who wants to make something.
Calculated versus editorial
We keep two kinds of statements apart, and we mark them.
- Calculated A value that follows from a formula: a hue angle, an RGB or HSL value, a WCAG contrast ratio. Anyone can reproduce it.
- Editorial suggestion A recommendation based on design practice and taste: which scheme to try, which colors feel calm, how much of each color to use. Reasonable people disagree on these.
Rules of thumb such as 60-30-10 are presented as guidelines, not laws.
Accuracy
- Hex codes shown with a color name are checked to match that color family.
- We do not invent statistics, studies or quotes.
- When something depends on materials (paint, dye, fabric, lighting) we say so and advise testing.
- Safety notes appear on projects that involve paint, dye, tools or heat. They are general reminders. Always follow the instructions on your product labels.
Independence
We do not publish paid placements, sponsored reviews or affiliate recommendations. We do not name specific paint products or recommend brands. If this ever changes, we will label it clearly and update this page.
Corrections and updates
Every guide and project shows the date it was last updated. If you find an error, contact us. We check each report, correct confirmed errors and update the date on the page.
Limits of our advice
Our content is general education. It is not professional design, safety, health or construction advice. Color results vary with screens, materials and light.
